This was the 10th Rait Games to take place, following the discovery in 2004 that it had been a tradition more than 300 years earlier, when Bonnie Prince Charlie and his supporters gathered at nearby Fingask Castle. A traditional Highland games, with a special Rait twist, being very much family-orientated, has been held since.
The iron grip of Graham Nicholson, chieftain of the Games (and also chairman of our vestry), first clutched his claymore as he led in the opening procession, before discarding that in favour of a microphone with the help of which he ably commanded the proceedings of the afternoon. Besides the famed Hill Race, there were fine displays of Highland and contemporary dancing, wonderful singing, hotly contested ring races, and the more traditional putting the shot and tug o'wars.
