Baptism is open to everyone. Baptism is the gift of God. When Jesus had risen from the dead, he commanded his followers to go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God which continues for the rest of our lives. Baptism is for those who want to publicly state their desire to bring up their child as a Christian. It therefore involves promises of commitment to Jesus and the Church. As well as the words of commitment, the child is named, water is poured over the child, candles are presented and prayers are said.

promises, perhaps made on his or her behalf in infancy, can do so in the service of Confirmation.

Baptisms can be conducted for people of any age and certainly need not be restricted to newly born babies. Sometimes people come to a decision for baptism or thanksgiving much later in the life of a family. Family life is never just a simple linear process, there are always ups and downs and the church can be here to accompany these changes.
