Once a year in October, the lounge bar in the Glencarse Hotel becomes a place where players of bridge, Mahjong and Scrabble come together to pit their wiles and their wits against each other, and to enjoy an extremely enjoyable and social supper laid on by the staff of the Glencarse Hotel.
Bridge players play for the prestigious Bruce Bridge Cup but this year the standard was of such high quality that it was decided that the cup could not be awarded to one particular team and a dead heat was declared. The highest Scrabble score was also thrown into doubt when it was found that some players' extensive vocabulary included words which did not seem to appear in the Oxford Dictionary.
